The Cal middle infield combination of junior second baseman Brian Guinn (Berkeley H.S.) and
sophomore shortstop Marcus Semien (St. Mary's H.S.) have combined for 14 runs and 17 hits in the Bears' first five games.

Cal beat Central Michigan, 9-4, Friday at the CS Bakersfield Tournament to improve to 4-1.

Crank hits three homers on opening day

Former Pinole Valley catcher Coley Crank is believed to be the first player in the modern era of Division I baseball to hit three home runs on opening day after blasting out a trio of balls for Michigan against Jacksonville State on Friday.

Crank was named one of Louisville Slugger's National Players of the Week. The sophomore designated hitter hit .467 (7-for-15) with four home runs and nine runs batted in at the Red Raider Invitational.
