NCS board rejects non-wood bat ban
The North Coast Section board of directors voted 35-12 on Monday against banning non-wood bats in games for the 2010 playoffs.
The proposal was initiated by the Marin County Athletic League, which banned all metal bats last month following the serious injury suffered by Marin Catholic pitcher Gunnar Sandberg when he was struck by a batted ball in March.

Lamb strikes out 16 in Davidson win
Chris Lamb (Berkeley H.S. '08) came within one strikeout of tying the Davidson single-game record -- first set in 1908 -- with 16 strikeouts in the Wildcats' 9-2 win over North Carolina Central in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Lamb, a sophomore, went the distance in the 7-inning game. After allowing two runs in the opening inning on two hits and an error, he scattered just two hits over the final six innings for the first complete game of his college career.
Perhaps Lamb's biggest play of the game was not a strikeout. It came in the 1st inning when he picked off an N.C. Central runner for the first out and then got a pair strikeouts to get out of the inning with only two runs allowed. After loading the bases in the 5th inning, Lamb struck out the side. The Wildcats (16-19) won the opening game of a doubleheader against the Eagles, 17-7.
